Anthony Hopkins has, for the time being, agreed to star as Ernest Hemingway in an upcoming biopic directed by Andy Garcia titled HEMINGWAY & FUENTES. Garcia co-wrote the script with the niece of Hemingway, Hilary Hemingway, in a story centering on Hemingway’s friendship with Cuban fishing-boat captain Gergorio Fuentes. Hemingway spent a lot of time fishing in Cojimar, Cuba in the last decade of his life, and became great friends with Fuentes during this time. Fuentes is even said to be the basis for Hemingway’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel “The Old Man and the Sea”. Garcia hopes to co-star alongside Hopkins as Fuentes with Annette Bening possibly starring as Hemingway’s wife Mary Welsh. The film is in the early stages of development right now so there’s no start date or release as yet. Read more about it over HERE.
