Johnson & Statham start a war with Elba in final Hobbs & Shaw trailer

The upcoming spinoff in the FAST AND FURIOUS series – HOBBS & SHAW – is shaping up to be one of the most effortlessly fun movies of the summer, and if, for some unholy reason, the previous trailers have not properly conveyed that to you, then here is one more to seal the deal. As before, stars Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham are back as Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, and though they have a contentious relationship, are putting that aside to save the world from Black Superman himself, Idris Elba’s Brixton Lore, who is quite apt at motorbike riding.

One notable element of the movie that makes it more distinct from the main series is the sense of humor. That's not to say the main movies don't have funny moments to picks things up a bit (Okay, I'm kind of saying that), but this movie seems to make humor a more dominant trait. Speaking to that with EW, Johnson said it's all about giving the story a chance to spread out and offer a different kind of experience.

“We really lean into the comedy,” Johnson said. “In the other movies, we were able to have a little bit of fun just through quips. But for something like this, it really gives us the opportunity to stretch the script out, inject comedy, and make sure that people are laughing.”

“I think me and Dwayne share a very similar sense of humor,” Statham said. “The only difference in us is the amount of weight he pushes when he’s doing a bench press.”

Here's the synopsis:

Ever since hulking lawman Hobbs (Johnson), a loyal agent of America's Diplomatic Security Service, and lawless outcast Shaw (Statham), a former British military elite operative, first faced off in 2015’s Furious 7, the duo have swapped smack talk and body blows as they’ve tried to take each other down.

But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton (Idris Elba) gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever — and bests a brilliant and fearless  rogue MI6 agent (The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby), who just happens to be Shaw’s sister — these two sworn enemies will have to partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves.

FAST & FURIOUS PRESENTS: HOBBS & SHAW is in theaters August 2.
