Nicolas Cage screams expletives in new History of Swear Words trailer

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Admit it, if Netflix's upcoming History of Swear Words series consisted solely of Nicolas Cages screaming a series of convoluted obscenities at the camera, you'd still be watching; hell, that might be your only reason for watching now. Netflix has released a new trailer for the upcoming series, and you're going to want to check it out.

History of Swear Words will find Nicolas Cage hosting an examination of the origins and history of some of our very favourite profane words, all with a little help from guest stars such as Joel Kim Booster, DeRay Davis, Open Mike Eagle, Nikki Glaser, Patti Harrison, London Hughes, Jim Jefferies, Zainab Johnson, Nick Offerman, Sarah Silverman, Baron Vaughn, and Isiah Whitlock Jr. On the fact-based side of things, History of Swear Words will also include experts such as Benjamin Bergen (PhD, Cognitive Scientist, Author of “What The F”), Mireille Miller-Young (PhD, Professor of Feminist Studies), Elvis Mitchell (Film Critic/Host of “The Treatment” on KCRW), Melissa Mohr (PhD, Author of “Holy Sh*t: A Brief History of Swearing”), and Kory Stamper (Lexicographer, Author of “Word By Word”). After the year we've all had, I'd imagine that plenty of us would also just love to scream out "f**********k!" for all to hear.

The official synopsis for History of Swear Words:

An education in expletives: the history lesson you didn’t know you needed. History Of Swear Words, hosted by Nicolas Cage, is a loud and proudly profane series that explores the origins, pop culture-usage, science and cultural impact of curse words. Through interviews with experts in etymology, pop culture, historians and entertainers, the six-episode series dives into the origins of "F@@k" "Sh!t",__ B!tch", "D!ck", “Pu**y”, and “Damn”.

History of Swear Words will debut on Netflix on January 5, 2021.
