Take this info how you will, but tucked away in an interview in Canada’s The Globe and Mail with NHL player Mike Comrie, is this little tidbit concerning his girlfriend, Hillary Duff.
Although tastefully furnished (Comrie says he’s unsure if anything is from The Brick), it is relatively humble by Beverly Hills standards. The kitchen contains evidence of their professional lives – his daily diet is posted on the fridge (from a bacon cheddar burrito for breakfast to five pigs-in-a-blanket as a nighttime snack) and a script marked “Spiderman” sits on the table, with lines for a character simply called “girl” highlighted in yellow (rumours swirl about who Spidey’s love interest will be in the series’ next installment.)
Well, I can’t really see this meaning anything other than Hilary Duff at least being in the running for the part of Mary Jane, as I doubt Gwen Stacy is showing up in the new version already.
I’ve always liked Duff, as she would seem to be one of the only Disney girls who hasn’t gone explicity “bad” in recent years. But is she really up for the task here? This would be her most prominent film role to date, and her current portfolio is mainly full of stuff like CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN, THE PERFECT MAN, MATERIAL GIRLS, A CINDERELLA STORY and a whole host of other movies you’d expect Hilary Duff to be in.
Director Marc Webb showed he’s got smarts by casting Andrew Garfield, a very talented kid as Peter Parker, but is Duff the same quality? Or has she just been needing a breakout role all these years?
Clearly this might not pan out at all, and I’m sure there are a bunch of other actresses in the running, but it’s an interesting thought nonetheless. As is picturing Duff as a redhead. Meow!
