Here’s How Selma Blair and Ron Perlman Reacted to new Hellboy trailer

The first trailer for Neil Marshall's HELLBOY dropped on December 19th, and fans have been going wild on the internet ever since. Many have felt apprehensive about Marshall stepping into the director's chair to reboot the franchise after Guillermo del Toro delivered two epic HELLBOY adaptations, and now it's clear that even Selma Blair and Ron Perlman share such similar sentiment. The two actors appeared in del Toro's 2004 HELLBOY and the 2008 sequel HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY, with Blair starring as Liz Sherman and Perlman as the iconic comic book character himself. Over the past two days, the pair have taken to Instagram to engage in silent little protests against director Marshall's new vision.

While it's easy to understand why fans would be hesitant about a brand new HELLBOY reboot, especially since del Toro never gave us that third entry that we so rightly deserved, I am a firm believer in not judging a movie by its trailer. Directors, especially when dealing with large studio films, rarely have much control over the marketing of their product. Their job is to create the story, not to sell it. It's entirely possible that Marshall did not manifest the tongue-in-cheek comedy that the first footage makes the movie out to be. Also, given the fact that this man is responsible for THE DESCENT and some of the best episodes of GAME OF THRONES makes me think that perhaps we're not seeing everything that his brand new vision of the big red beast has to offer — at least not yet. It's only the first trailer, guys. Remember that first sewer pipe picture from IT?

HELLBOY stars David Harbour (STRANGER THINGS) as the titular demon, Milla Jovovich (RESIDENT EVIL) as Nimue the Blood Queen, Ian McShane (AMERICAN GODS) as Professor Bruttenholm, Sasha Lane (AMERICAN HONEY) as Alice Monaghan, Thomas Haden Church (SPIDER-MAN 3) as Lobster Johnson, Penelope Mitchell (THE VAMPIRE DIARIES) as Ganeida, Daniel Dae Kim (HAWAII FIVE-O) as Ben Daimio, Sophie Okonedo (DOCTOR WHO) as Lady Hatton, and Kristina Klebe (Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN) as Leni Riefenstahl.

Lionsgate's new HELLBOY lands in theaters on April 12th, 2019.
