Here we go again – NBC taking another crack at remaking The IT Crowd

The IT Crowd remake

It's not always a simple task to adapt a British television series for American audiences. For every success story such as The Office, there's a failure like The IT Crowd waiting in the wings. The celebrated British sitcom ran from 2006-2010, with a one hour special in 2013, and revolved around three staff members in the IT department of Reynholm Industries: Maurice Moss (Richard Ayoade), Roy Trenneman (Chris O'Dowd), and Jen Barber (Katherine Parkinson). As with anything successful across the pond, it was targeted for an American adaptation. A pilot was produced for NBC which found Richard Ayoade reprising his role, with Joel McHale as Roy and Jessica St. Clair as Jen. Needless to say, it failed spectacularly.

Although he was credited as a producer, The IT Crowd creator/writer Graham Linehan said that he had no involvement with the project, but now, NBC is looking to give it another crack, but this time, they made sure to get Linehan on-board. Variety reports that Graham Linehan will set and executive produce a reimagining of the series, which, like the original, will follow the employees in the IT department of a massive corporation. With Graham Linehan's involvement, and as it's unlikely that the original cast will reunite, I say why not? So long as it's not a joke-for-joke remake of the British series, plus, America does loves a workplace comedy.

What do you folks think? Should The IT Crowd be reimagined?
