Here is today’s dose of Star Trek 2 villain misinformation

This back and forth about the villain in STAR TREK 2 is really getting annoying. Once the speculation on whether Khan was in the movie hit a peak several months ago, Abrams and crew should have just announced who the bad guy was going to be. Now we have Roberto Orci saying it is not Gary Mitchell, then Karl Urban accidently saying it was Gary Mitchell, and now Orci saying it is not Gary Mitchell again. Just end the back and forth already and tell us!

Orci told TrekMovie.com “I would say that I never lie. While Karl tests all those hypo spray props on himself.” Nice. But that is only a vague way of answering the question. Could this alternate reality have created some sort of Khan/Gary Mitchell hybrid character? A Khan Mitchell, or Khatchell, so to speak? Who knows. I just want a teaser already.

Orci did go on to explain the focus of STAR TREK 2: “Sequels are about the bad guy. The first movie is really about the first characters coming together, and how they become the bridge crew,” Kurtzman said. “In the second movie, the reason that a bad guy is so important is that he has to test that.”

He also went on to say that the sequel will not be called STAR TREK 2 because that title is permanently reserved for THE WRATH OF KHAN. That is the best thing they have said so far! But, what will it be called? “There’s no word that comes after the colon after ‘Star Trek’ that’s cool. Not that ‘Star Trek: Insurrection’ or ‘First Contact’ aren’t good titles, it’s just that everything that people are turned off about when it comes to ‘Trek’ is represented by the colon.”

THE DARK KNIGHT was an easy choice because that is another term for BATMAN. Same with MAN OF STEEL for the new Superman movie. But what title could you possibly use for STAR TREK without using the words star or trek? Any ideas?

STAR TREK 2 is slated for release on May 17, 2013.
