Spoilers for Black Adam–yes, still! Last week, it was announced that Henry Cavill would be leaving Netflix’s fantasy series The Witcher. Geez, we hope this guy has something else lined up…Oh, right. The initial reasons that were given came down to scheduling, as Cavill is, of course, reviving his take on Superman. However, there may be more to it than meets the heat vision eye.
Henry Cavill began having issues on the show back in season two, according to The Witcher fan site Redanian Intelligence. Reportedly, Cavill and producers were clashing over the character and faithfulness to the source material. “The toughest part for me was finding that balance between the showrunners’ vision and my love for the books, and trying to bring that Geralt to the showrunners’ vision…All of my asks and requests were along the lines of just being faithful to the source material.”
So with that–and, you know, playing the most iconic character in the DC Extended Universe–Henry Cavill will be leaving The Witcher after season three, scheduled for summer 2023. Cavill will be passing his sword as “witcher” Geralt to Liam Hemsworth. In a statement, Hemsworth expressed his enthusiasm for both Cavill and the show. “As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt…I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”
Interestingly, it was while Henry Cavill was filming season three of The Witcher that he was called to shoot his Black Adam cameo as Superman. That must have made for awkward chit-chat at the craft service table…
