Henry Cavill confirms he’s “Back as Superman” for the DCEU’s brave and bold plans for future films

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Black Adam! The Battle of the Big Two is underway, ladies and gentlemen! Moments after Marvel Studios debuted the first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, DC clapped back with word that Henry Cavill is officially back as Superman in the DCEU. Cavill‘s Man of Steel appears in the new Black Adam film during a mid-credits sequence, though his future involvement in the DCEU remained unconfirmed. Today, Cavill posted a video to social media confirming our suspicions, saying he is back to playing Superman for future DC movies.

The video begins with a glorious shot of Cavill in Superman’s bright blue and red suit. Cavill thanks fans who’ve supported him throughout the long wait for his return, saying, “Hey, everyone. I wanted to wait until the weekend was over before posting this because I wanted to give you all a chance to watch Black Adam. Now that plenty of you have, I wanted to make it official that I am back as Superman. The image you see in this post and what you saw in Black Adam are just a very small taste of things to come,” Cavill teased. “There’s a lot to be thankful for, and I’ll get to that in time. I wanted to thank you guys most of all. Thank you for your support, and thank you for your patience. I promise it will be rewarded.”

As a part of Cavill’s return, DC plans to develop a solo Superman movie in addition to the character appearing in other projects. Initially, it wasn’t a guarantee Cavill would cameo in Black Adam. Jaume-Collet-Serra originally filmed a Superman body double before Cavill closed a deal to reprise the role. Cavill appears to be prepping fans for a different Man of Steel, as DC is no longer interested in continuing Zack Snyder’s vision for the character. I don’t know if that will go over well with Snyder fans, but DC has promised significant changes for the DCEU in the future.

However things shake out, Cavill is back, giving fans a reason to celebrate. Are you excited about Cavill’s official return to the DCEU? Do you think the new guard will reintroduce fans to a brighter and bolder Superman? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
