Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson suit up in first MIB International trailer

As far as the MEN IN BLACK film universe is concerned, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones have hung up their suits and now it’s time for Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson to take over the extra-terrestrial hijinks. MIB INTERNATIONAL will focus on a new team of agents assigned to deal with all sorts of alien threats, and now the first trailer is here to give us a taste of what this new out-of-this-world adventure has in store.

With at least one or two nods in there to the original series (check out those oil paintings), this new sci-fi outing finds Hemsworth’s Agent H and Thompson’s Agent M working for the London branch of the Men in Black service, and they’re soon embroiled in a murder mystery that finds them traveling around the world, encountering all sorts of alien threats. Starring alongside them are Rafe Spall, Rebecca Ferguson, Kumail Nanjiani, Liam Neeson as the head of the UK branch of MIB and Emma Thompson as the head of the US branch of MIB. F. Gary Gray (FATE OF THE FURIOUS, STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON) is directing from a script by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway

For a first trailer, this was a pretty substantial piece of footage, showing off plenty of aliens, giving a decent idea of the plot and showing plenty of laser-gun action. All-in-all this looks like a pretty stylish reboot of the series that won't just try and copy the originals, with both Hemsworth and Thompson getting to have some fun. The chemistry is there, and what's added here that I'm excited to see play out is the globe-trotting element, which takes them from rainy streets to sandy deserts. I want one of those jet bikes for Christmas…if you were wondering what to get me.

MEN IN BLACK INTERNATIONAL hits theaters June 14, 2019.
