Back in April we learned that Eli Roth's Netflix series "Hemlock Grove" would be returning for its second season on Friday, July 11, and today we've got a look at the season 2 key art as well as some new info on what we can expect.
Famke Janssen (X-MEN), Bill Skarsgård (SIMON & THE OAKS), Landon Liboiron ("Terra Nova") and Dougray Scott (MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE II) are all back for Season 2, joining new cast member Madeline Brewer who was announced back in October.
We've also learned that Season 2 of "Hemlock Grove" will feature some exciting new elements for the series, as we learn more about the bizarre and supernatural occurrences in the town of Hemlock Grove, Pennsylvania. Charles H. “Chic” Eglee, a veteran of series like "The Shield", "Dexter" and "The Walking Dead", has joined the show as an executive producer and showrunner, guiding a story that will find the town coming to grips with the shocking massacre in Season 1, only for dangerous new mysteries to arise.
IGN is reporting that in Season 2, we’ll see something most werewolf story’s avoid – a graphic look at the werewolf to human transition. This should be rather interesting as "Hemlock Grove" featured one of the coolest (and nastiest) werewolf transformations we've ever seen.
At the center of Hemlock Grove has been the unlikely friendship between Roman (Bill Skarsgård) and Peter (Landon Liboiron) – but it’s been a friendship with many obstacles to overcome, to say the least. New showrunner Charles Eglee noted that Season 2 would take Roman and Peter out of a high school environment and show them “separating from both their mothers. It's kind of a boys to men story.”
It’s no secret that Famke Janssen is returning to "Hemlock Grove" as Olivia for Season 2, as she’s already been featured in promotional material. Of course, as Eglee brought up…
“When last we saw Olivia, she was being zipped into a body bag. Now, obviously our key art and advertising campaign is going to tell the story that she in fact survives, but it'll be interesting to see what hole she was dumped in that she's going to have to pull herself out of. What are the physical and emotional scars from that horrible attack committed by her son last season? Where are Olivia and Roman at the beginning of this season after what transpired at the end of last season?”
And what of Shelley, who we last saw in dire straights? Eglee shares…
“Shelley, last we saw her, she was shot twice and took off running into the woods. Obviously there's no secret there that we're going to see her come back, but in what set of circumstances? Where is she at physically and emotionally after those traumatic injuries?
"I looked at that character and thought, ‘Oh my Lord, she’s so interesting.’ In some respects, she's kind of the emotional heartbeat of the whole show. She's the one true spirit in this otherwise ruined world.”
Eli Roth has previously shared his excitement for the second season, stating…
“I cannot wait for fans to see what's in store for Season 2 – it is going to blow away all expectations. Netflix has been an incredible partner, and whenever we wanted to take the story in a dangerous direction, they encouraged us to go even further – into a scarier, darker, and sexier place. We guarantee you won't see anything like this anywhere else on television.”
