The Netflix original series Hemlock Grove was a collaboration between the streaming service and producer/distributor Gaumont, and did not belong to Netflix in perpetuity – as evident from the fact that it was removed from the service last month. But if you were hoping to watch Hemlock Grove soon, we have good news for you: the independent free streaming network FilmRise had struck a deal with Gaumont to bring all three seasons (33 episodes) of the show to their service. Also part of the FilmRise and Gaumont deal is all three seasons (39 episodes) of the Thomas Harris-inspired series Hannibal!
Based on a novel by Brian McGreevy and executive produced by Eli Roth, Hemlock Grove follows the strange happenings in a fictional town in Pennsylvania. Roman Godfrey, heir to the town’s wealthy Godfrey family, befriends the town’s newcomer, Peter Rumancek. Recent brutal murders in the town have stirred up rumors, and the two work together to shed light on the case while also hiding their own dark secrets.
The series stars Famke Janssen, Bill Skarsgard, Landon Liboiron, Kaniehtiio Horn, and Joel de la Fuente.
Executive produced by Bryan Fuller, Hannibal explores the early relationship between renowned psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter and a young FBI criminal profiler, who is haunted by his ability to empathize with serial killers.
That series stars Mads Mikkelsen, Hugh Dancy, Laurence Fishburne, and Gillian Anderson.
FilmRise’s Max Einhorn had this to say about the deal with Gaumont: “These beloved horror series are welcome additions to FilmRise. Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal was a creative achievement for network TV when it launched on NBC, as was Hemlock Grove as one of Netflix’s early original series. We are excited to be among the first truly free streaming destinations to offer these shows.“
Gaumont’s Nicolas Atlan provided the following statement: “We are excited to be working with FilmRise on the distribution of two of our most popular series. Their network’s audience reach has grown exponentially over the years, and we are happy that we can offer, through this deal, the opportunity for old and new fans to watch these series.“
