I hate to be the bearer of bad news folks but that HELLRAISER remake talk isn’t dead yet. The 1987 classic Clive Barker tale has been talked about being redone for a while now but until recently seemed like it had stalled. But Clive Barker himself has unearthed the project and has taken it into his own hands, as he turned in a long-ass treatment for the remake and plans to start writing the script.
Apparently Barker feels as though there are opportunities to improve on the original with a remake. “There are some areas of the first movie where I think we can be a lot more intense and a lot more scary,” he told Variety. “It will not be simply a reworking or reshooting of the first picture.”
Originally it was thought that the studio was aiming for a 2007 release for the remake to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the original, but that seems impossible at this point, especially taking into consideration that Barker’s already insanely busy schedule is going to make it difficult for the new HELLRAISER script to be ready anytime soon.
