Hellraiser reboot: Odessa A’Zion is the lead in David Bruckner film

There are two new Hellraiser projects currently in the works. One is an HBO Max series headed up by David Gordon Green, Mark Verheiden, Michael Dougherty, and Hellraiser creator Clive Barker. The other is a feature film that David Bruckner will be directing for Spyglass Media, working from a screenplay written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski. Now The Illuminerdi has reported and our friends over at Bloody-Disgusting have confirmed that Bruckner's Hellraiser has found its female lead: Odessa A'zion.

Horror fans may have seen A'zion in Let's Scare Julie (watch it HERE) last year. All we know about her Hellraiser character is that her name is Riley – which is at least enough to know that the reboot won't center on a new version of Ashley Laurence's Kirsty Cotton from the original film.

Producer David S. Goyer crafted the story for this Hellraiser, which is said to be "loyal, but evolved" take on the concept. The original Hellraiser was about

a puzzle box that opens a gateway to a horrific world and Cenobites, mutilated beings dedicated to torture and led by one nicknamed Pinhead. The movie quickly achieved cult status, spawning a franchise that would encompass ten movies, comics, and merchandise, with Pinhead and his visage at the center of it.

In addition to Let's Scare Julie, A'Zion's previous credits include Ladyworld and the TV shows Nashville, Fam, and Grand Army. She is sometimes credited as Odessa Adlon. Bruckner has previously directed The Ritual and The Night House, and also contributed to the anthologies V/H/S, Southbound, and Creepshow.

Bruckner's Hellraiser will be released through the Hulu streaming service, but does not yet have a release date.
