For years, George A. Romero's son George Cameron Romero has been plotting a prequel (or, as he calls it, a prologue) to his father's LIVING DEAD universe, a story that has been referred to as ORIGINS, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, ORIGINS, and RISE OF THE LIVING DEAD over the years. Now we're going to have a chance to find out just what George C. Romero's LIVING DEAD story is – not in the form of a film at this time, but in the pages of Heavy Metal magazine.
Romero's THE RISE will make its debut in Heavy Metal #302, with artist Diego Yapur, colorist DC Alonso, and letterer Saida Temofonte working together to turn his script into a "black, white, and red" comic book. Some sample pages can be seen below, and they look incredible.
We've previously heard that this prologue would be
set at the height of the Cold War, when one scientist tried to give the world its best hope for survival and instead unleashed its worst nightmare.
The sample pages show that the synopsis was accurate. Give those pages a look, and if you like what you see watch for Heavy Metal #302, which is scheduled to reach store shelves on November 25th.
