THE RAID 2 made its debut last night at Sundance and has been lighting the interwebs on fire with the onslaught of positive reviews (read ours here). Director Gareth Evans follows up his 2011 hit, THE RAID: REDEMPTION, with a balls-to-the-wall, brutally violent tale with returning star Iko Uwais returning to lead the charge. Many are anticipating another hyperkinetic actioner with the sequel and by the looks from this new domestic trailer and the reactions from Sundance it seems like we've got a sequel that may well eclipse the original.
Take a look:
Here's the synopsis:
Immediately following the events of the original, The Raid 2 tracks Officer Rama as he is pressured to join an anti-corruption task force to guarantee protection for his wife and child. His mission is to get close to a new mob boss, Bangun, by befriending his incarcerated son, Uco. Rama must hunt for information linking Bangun with corruption in the Jakarta Police Department while pursuing a dangerous and personal vendetta that threatens to consume him and bring his mission-and the organized crime syndicate-down around him.
May critics have expressed how exceptionally violent the film is (with some even walking out of the screening), which may raise concerns with the MPAA when it's finally released. I think we all get a little nervouse when a film gets put on the censorship chopping block and Evans is hopeful that it will go uncut. However, even if it is, the film will likely still kick all forms of ass. Plus, there's always the blu-ray, right?
THE RAID 2 hits theaters on March 28, 2014.
