The gorgeous Hayley Atwell saddened a lot of fans of the original CAPTAIN AMERICA movie when she said she would not be reprising her role in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER. At the time it made sense seeing as over fifty years had passed from the first movie to the sequel. Plus, Emily VanCamp was added as Peggy’s niece Sharon for the follow up. But, those still hoping for a little Atwell appearance may be in luck after all.
During press for JACK THE GIANT SLAYER, Stanley Tucci was asked about the sequel and if he would be reprising his role as the deceased Dr. Erskine. He had this to say:
“No, they haven’t, unfortunately. I’m really sad. I know that Hayley is going back to do a flashback scene, but I have not been asked.”
So, Tucci could be misinformed or did not realize he shouldn’t be spilling the beans about Atwell’s little cameo. Or maybe Atwell didn’t know they had worked her in when she commented to the contrary. Either way, I am all for bringing her back in some capacity, as long as it benefits the story.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER is being directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and stars Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Emily VanCamp, Cobie Smulders, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo and Toby Jones. It hits theaters April 4, 2014.
