For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, Autumn has arrived at last. The ground is awash with crunch leaves of every fiery color, the trees are barren and skeletal in the harvest moonlight, the sweet smell of pumpkin pie wafts out from bakeries as you pass by, and everything has a tinge of Tom Waits. And speaking of pumpkin, there’s the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular in Providence, Rhode Island. This year’s theme is “All the World’s A Stage,” and features over 5,000 pumpkins carved with all sorts of movie, Broadway, TV, video game, and comic book characters/scenes.
Here are a few selections of the aforementioned 5,000 that are both stunningly awesome and eminent examples of the immense craft that pumpkin carving can play host to.
