Haunted Mansion: Rosario Dawson invited in for Disney reboot

The cast for Disney’s Haunted Mansion is getting so good it’s downright scary. It’s been announced that Rosario Dawson is joining LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, and Owen Wilson for the reboot based on the timeless theme park attraction (via Deadline). Justin Simien (Dear White People, Bad Hair) is directing from a script penned by Katie Dippold, and cameras are set to roll next month.

Plot details are largely being kept under wraps, but it’s expected to follow a family who moves into the titular mansion. Previous reports have claimed that Stanfield would play a widower who once believed in the supernatural but is now a rather lifeless tour guide in New Orleans’ French Quarter. Haddish would play a psychic hired to commune with the dead. As for Rosario Dawson and Owen Wilson, the nature of their roles is unknown.

Disney’s Haunted Mansion opened in 1969, after years of toil and compromise for the frightful yet funny theme park experience. The premise for the ride involves guests of the park going inside a spooky manor where they encounter ghosts, ghouls, and other members of the undead community. As you venture through the manor, the building itself warps and changes its appearance on several occasions. The experience eventually ends with an unforgettable ghostly encounter that will have you think ghosts are following you back to your hotel.

Dawson recently finished shooting Clerks III for Kevin Smith, and soon she’ll be returning to the Star Wars universe for The Mandalorian spin-off Ahsoka. I wonder who she’ll play in Haunted Mansion. Personally, I hope she’ll step into the role of Constance Hatchaway – also known as the “Black Widow Bride.” We’ll be sure to keep an eye on this project for more details as they rise from the grave.

How are you feeling about this reboot of Haunted Mansion so far?
