Has Meg finally resurfaced? Eli Roth in talks to direct the giant shark film

The feature film adaptation of Steve Alten's "Meg" has suffered in development hell for the entirety of my adult life, but the terror that time forgot may finally be back on track towards its voyage to the big-screen. Variety broke the news that MEG may have found itself a director in Eli Roth. Warner Bros. is currently in talks with Roth to direct the film from a screenplay by Dean Georgaris.

A synopsis for "Meg" via Amazon:

Years ago, on a top-secret dive seven miles down into the Mariana Trench, Jonas came face to face with an ancient monster everyone believed extinct. Having barely escaped with his life, Jonas must prove to the world that Meg still exists. When an opportunity to return to the trench presents itself, he takes it, intent on returning topside with a 7-inch tooth! But man s presence in this unexplored domain releases one of the sharks from its purgatory, and now Jonas is the only one who can stop it.

Variety mentions that Warner Bros. were quite excited about Georgaris' script even before JURASSIC WORLD's recent domination at the box-office, but I'm sure that definitely played a part in getting the project moving forward again. Eli Roth hasn't tackled a project of this size before but I admit that I'm quite interested in his potential involvement; a grisly suspenseful giant shark thriller? Count me in.

 Roth's next, KNOCK, KNOCK, will debut on June 26th, 2015 while THE GREEN INFERNO will follow on September 25, 2015; he’ll also be hosting Shark After Dark during Discovery Channel’s Shark Week.

Has Warner Bros. found a winner with Eli Roth, or should the search for MEG's director continue?
