Has Disney signed Alden Ehrenreich up for a Han Solo trilogy?

It will be interesting to see exactly how the STAR WARS anthology films will stack up compared to the main saga flicks, but according to a recent report by The New York Daily News, these standalone films could very well become franchises in their own right. It's important to take this news with several grains of salt, but the outlet is reporting that Disney/Lucasfilm has signed Alden Ehrenreich up for a three-picture deal which will mean more Han Solo centric-films should the upcoming spin-off prove to be a success.

Their insider says that there's "a real sense of excitement around the Han Solo movie and its potential. Given that Han’s early adventures do not need to be tied to the Empire, it leaves story lines open with the opportunity to really give fans something different. They can explore new galaxies and crazy creatures and bring in a wide array of new characters. They feel that his character has the right potential to become a central figure in several movies. They’re keeping things under wraps at the moment, but the deal is that he has signed for at least three movies.” Again, grain of salt, but it shouldn't be any surprise that Lucasfilm/Disney are covering their bases should the film prove to be an extraordinary hit. They are in the business of making money after all.

At first I wasn't sure exactly how to feel about the whole idea of anthology films arriving every other year, but I soon grew to appreciate that these projects would be able to tap into different characters and eras not easily touched upon by the main saga. Another part of the appeal, for me at least, was that these would be one and done films; no saving characters for a bigger purpose, no questions left unanswered for the sequel, just an entertaining story with a beginning, middle, and end. It's still too early to know what the big plan is for these anthology films, but if a certain percentage of them do spawn their own sequels, that would definitely be one way for the franchise to keep going until well after we're all dead.

Sound off below and let us know how you feel about the possibility of the Han Solo spin-off film becoming its own trilogy.
