Warner Bros.' Wizarding World stands behind only the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars as one of the highest grossing film franchises of all-time, so it's no surprise that there are plans to keep expanding the world.
It was reported earlier this year that WarnerMedia were developing a Harry Potter TV series for the HBO Max streaming service. The potential series was still in the extremely early stages with no writers or talent attached, but HBO Max and Warner Bros. quickly released a statement at the time saying, "There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform." Well, during the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecommunications Conference session earlier today, WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar teased that there are plans to potentially expand the Harry Potter franchise.
There's this little thing called Harry Potter, which is one of the most beloved franchises. And we're incredibly thankful to be able to partner with J.K. Rowling and so I would argue there's a lot of fun and potential there as well.
THR also noted that "discussion about possible sequels for Harry Potter" came as Kilar spoke about "the creative fortunes going forward for Warner Bros." There's frequently been talk that Warner Bros. might adapt the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child stage play, but it's far too early to jump to any conclusions regarding the big-screen side of the series. Once the Fantastic Beasts franchise wraps up its five-film run, I would imagine that Warner Bros. wouldn't be content to let the franchise lay dormant, so another multi-film franchise could very well pop up.
The third film in the Fantastic Beasts franchise is currently filming and slated for a July 15, 2022 release.
