Things just went from bad to worse. After being updated that Harrison Ford‘s on-set injury was a broken ankle that would keep the actor out for 8 weeks, we were told that it would not delay production on STAR WARS: EPISODE VII at all. Now, we are finally being told the extent to the injury is more severe.
BBC News confirmed with Ford’s publicist that the injury is in fact a broken leg and not his ankle. The eight week turnaround likely means he will be in a cast for a portion, if not the majority, of that time. If the character of Han Solo is truly as significant to the film as we have been led to believe, this could be a big issue. Disney and Lucasfilm are still staying true to the stated release date as they likely shift as much of the production schedule to focus on Ford’s more significant scenes until after he is fully healed.
STAR WARS: EPISODE VII was the subject of rumor and criticism as we heard about difficulties with the script and projected summer release date. Eventually, J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan took over the writing and a Christmas release was announced. The studio is fully aware that another push at this point may be what finally cracks the ice for fans anticipating the new film.
STAR WARS: EPISODE VII hits theaters (hopefully) on December 18, 2015.
