Last week we heard the unfortunate news that Harrison Ford was injured on the set of STAR WARS: EPISODE VII. At the time, the extent of the injury was unknown. Now, we know that a hydraulic door on the Millennium Falcon set broke the actor’s ankle and he was then airlifted to a local hospital.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the injury will require approximately 8 weeks to heal, putting the already huge production in a quandary. Rumors have put Ford’s character of Han Solo front and center in the new film which may be difficult to work around if he cannot run or participate in major sequences. The studio is insisting that the injury will not delay production at all which means they could be changing the shooting order of the film or it may just be that Ford doesn’t need to do much standing for most of his scenes.
STAR WARS: EPISODE VII has been in the limelight since it was announced during Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm and has not left the news since. Once the full cast was announced, it was only a matter of time before set images and news tidbits leaked out. It would have been impossible not to reveal Harrison Ford‘s injury, so we will just have to wait and see how and if it impacts the final product.
STAR WARS: EPISODE VII hits theaters on December 18, 2015.
