Nick Groff is one of the most respected names in television and beyond when it comes to the paranormal. He has had incredible experiences in some of the most haunted locations in the world. As a friend to Arrow in the Head, we’ve shared some very exciting experiences with Nick including a couple of wild and spooky moments that we’ve managed to capture on camera. Thus, we’ve decided to work with the television host and producer extraordinaire so he can share his knowledge and insight on all things that go bump in the night. With this bi-monthly column, we plan to delve into everything from urban legends to ghostly apparitions, to his take on some of the coolest genre flicks ever. This is Nick Groff Investigates…!
The time has come and 2020 is finally behind us. And here we are with 2021 just starting to unfold. It's quite likely that you had a very different kind of New Year's celebration. For me, it was a night of rum and coke and a couple of slasher flicks including the awesomeness of Jamie Lee Curtis in Terror Train, as well as the bonkers freakshow New Year's Evil. While there are other New Year's genre entries, I couldn't resist going back to some of my favorites – both films are available on Amazon Prime. However, one thing I was missing was a good ghost story to send a shiver.
Here's the thing, when I think ghosts, I'm always curious to check in with my pal Nick. And while deciding what to discuss on this weeks' 'Nick Groff Investigates,' the idea of starting over and ringing in a new year sounded intriguing. With that, I checked in with Mr. Groff and thought we might have a bit of fun since everything currently is pretty serious as of late. So instead of simply asking him about a haunted insane asylum or a spooky mansion, I felt as though the subject of a brand new year would be interesting to explore.
When putting all of it together, I was curious as to the film's that Nick would watch on December 31st. How the impact of Covid and the current state of the world would affect him personally. As well, like with most holidays, my thoughts always go to the scary. With all these people waiting for the clock to hit midnight, I was curious if there is any significance in that particular moment of celebration with the paranormal world. In other words, this isn't about a place or a specific haunting, but the power of change when another year finally arrives… especially after the insanity that was 2020. Hope you all are well and that you had a happy and safe New Years' celebration!
Happy New Year everyone! Since 2020 felt like a horror movie in itself. 2021 should be more of a love story.
I am excited about everything coming up in 2021! On New Year's Eve, I watched Meet Joe Black and The Man From Nowhere, both great movies! I realized while watching the films that life holds so many mysteries and being open is key to living fully.
Being in lockdown gets you thinking about the greater things in life and what the purpose is on this journey. We can't predict the future but we can pave the way to the best of our abilities and be passionate. The kick-off to the New Years' always gets the mind thinking about new ways to succeed or change. Not sure why we need a New Year to have these thoughts but it seems to work.
I have never had a scary experience on New Years' but I believe when the clock hits midnight and people cheer the world is felt by the energy of everyone. Maybe there is a significance in ringing in the New Year within the paranormal world. So many emotions run wild from people's energy you would think it has to cause some sort of ripple effect in the environment.
I think each New Year affects me differently, depending on what I am doing at the point of my life. It is all growth to evolve as a human being on our own journeys. Like a crossroad in a horror film and making the right choice will determine your fate. A little dramatic I know but true in the common sense.
What drives you in your quest to succeed, live, love, and flourish? Keep pushing for a better day. 2021 will have a lot of great moments and experiences. I am wishing you all the best and enjoy!
