In a video interview with Entertainment Tonight (which you can watch at the top of the article), director Christopher Landon spoke mostly about his most recent horror film FREAKY, starring Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton, but also gave some new tidbits about where his HAPPY DEATH DAY franchise would go, if given a chance to do a third film:
I think that everybody wants it, but I think it’s just a logistical challenge right now. And there’s been talk that maybe they would try and make it for their new streaming service, for Peacock, so I think there’s a real shot that it could eventually happen. And the great thing about the idea is that, and this is a spoiler, it’s not set in the same day that the other two films were set in so it allows us to sort of take our time a little bit and figure it out.
As a fan of the first two films, that honestly feels exciting, and hope he eventually gets a chance to make it!
Here's the official synopsis for the original film:
Happy Death Day centered on a blissfully self-centered collegian who wakes up on her birthday with the eerie feeling that she’s experienced the events of this day before. When a masked killer suddenly takes her life in a brutal attack, she magically wakes up unharmed. Now, the frightened young woman must relive the same day over and over until she figures out who murdered her.
