Although the Hannibal television series, created by Bryan Fuller and based on the works of author Thomas Harris, was officially canceled by NBC last year, fans of the show continue to hold on to hope that it may return in some form some day. And they're not the only ones who are holding on to that hope.
Talking to Collider, Fuller confirmed that he and the show's stars Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen – who played Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter, respectively – are all interested in reviving the show as soon as possible.
The cast is game, I’m game, it’s just a matter of finding the right time where everybody’s schedules sync up, but I would love to continue to tell the story with Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen."
Fuller also revealed exactly when he'll be able to start actively pursuing the idea of bringing the show back.
Two years after the last airing of the show, we can investigate our options. August 2017 is when we can actually start talking about it. That’s when we would have to see what the rights are for the character and for the story, and see who’s interested and how we get it done. I have the story, and the cast is excited for the story, so we’re ready to go if somebody wants to go.”
The final episode of Hannibal aired on NBC on August 29, 2015.
It's not a certainty that the show will be returning, but fourteen months from now will be the time when fans really need to start hoping, wishing, and crossing fingers.
