Hammer returns with another comeback, hits the stage and TV with horror

While Hammer films gets its mack on with THE WOMAN IN BLACK, there are a few details regarding the future of Hammer films that are raising eyebrows.

After the low Box Office numbers with LET ME IN it’s hard to say what Hammer films will do next. LET ME IN was going to be their supposed big feature comeback in nearly 30 years. Hammer chief executive Simon Oakes has an answer to that. Hammer is looking into producing horror based television shows that will be similar to what it did in the eighties.

Oakes said the company was “very keen to build a television business” alongside its current film and publishing projects.” Those projects have yet to be confirmed. “Television is incredibly important,” Mr Oakes told the BBC. “I like the idea of going against conventional wisdom. People tell me that anthology doesn’t work any more. So that makes me think let’s try and make it work.”

Hammer will be looking to produce an anthology series with one hour events every week. This is very similar to THE HAMMER HOUSE OF HORROR and HAMMER HOUSE OF MYSTERY AND SUSPENSE in the early eighties.

Hammer will also be involved with other horror mediums. There are plans to adapt films into books and a possible future with the theatrics. Hammer will announce details on a theatrical project for the end of October. “We are creating a Hammer Theater of Horror,” Mr Oakes said. “I believe that the best brands can exist in multimedia… and I think there’s no better storytelling platform than the theater.”

Strike down below and tell us what you think about hammer’s new move. Is it a step in the right direction or a new loss?
