Disney is wasting no time at all in putting together the pieces for their MARY POPPINS sequel. With Emily Blunt coming along to play the titular musical nanny, Rob Marshall has moved onto securing his male lead and he’s gone to the most-talked-about show on Broadway to find his guy.
Lin-Manuel Miranda, star of HAMILTON, is in talks to play the role of Jack – a lamplighter very simiolar in nature to Dick Van Dyke’s Bert from the original 1964 MARY POPPINS film. But Disney is not just getting an acting force added to their mix with Miranda. He was also responsible for penning HAMILTON’s songs and scripts, so another creative force has been added to developing this next chapter, given that it will also follow in the musical footsteps of ts predecessor.
HAMILTON is probably the hottest property on Broadway currently, so, for Disney to be able to lure one of its biggest assets for this project is a major coup indeed. That’s one hell of a strong get for Disney to immediately grab credibility for their movie.
