Back in June of 2015, it was officially announced that Marcus Dunstan would be directing a new Halloween movie titled Halloween Returns, working from a screenplay he wrote with Patrick Melton. Dimension Films and Trancas International Films had the project on the fast track production… but then it fell apart and Dimension lost the Halloween rights. We’ve since gotten Halloween 2018 (watch it HERE) and Halloween Kills (now in theatres and on Peacock) from Universal, Blumhouse, and Trancas. But if you’re wondering what Dunstan’s Halloween Returns would have had in store for us, we’ve got the information in the new episode of our video series The Horror Movie That Almost Was – and you can check it out in the embed above!
The plot details we heard in 2015 said Halloween Returns would
pit a new group of Haddonfield youngsters against Michael Myers. The now 18-year-old child of one of Myers’ victims plays a central role along with the child of a cop who has long been obsessed with Myers’ case, even putting it before his own daughter. Myers is now on Death Row and the two kids with their own personal vendettas against the killer sneak in to watch his execution. But when things go awry and Myers escapes, the pair, along with their friends, find themselves in the firing line.
The Horror Movie That Almost Was series focuses on
the various horror projects that could never seem to get things off the ground, be it for budgetary concerns, creative differences, or just an ever evolving Hollywood landscape. We dive into every aspect and see just how close these films had come to cameras rolling.
This episode was Written, Narrated, and Edited by Tyler Nichols, Produced by John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
