It would appear that Michael Myers will be as violent as ever in this year's HALLOWEEN KILLS if director David Gordon Green is to be believed.
David Gordon Green participated in an online watch party over the weekend for 2018's HALLOWEEN and during the watch, Green took over the Blumhouse Twitter account and provided insights on the 2018 film. During the pretty visceral bathroom scene, in which Michael Myers brutally kills the two journalists looking to do a story on him, Green said it was the most violent scene he had directed since 2008's PINEAPPLE EXPRESS but he dropped a little tidbit that this was the case until directing HALLOWEEN KILLS. Here's what he had to say during the Twitter takeover:
It's a small little hint that HALLOWEEN KILLS will up the violence for the next installment which would be in line with co-writer Scott Teems saying the sequel would be "bigger, badder and meaner" than the previous film. While PINEAPPLE EXPRESS might be an odd comparison given that it's a comedy, there are some pretty violent moments in it with the climax providing a pretty intense shootout. If David Gordon Green's assessment wasn't enough, Andi Matichak, who plays Laurie's (Jamie Lee Curtis), granddaughter Allyson, added fuel to the fire herself by responding to Green's HALLOWEEN KILLS tweet:
While neither tweet gives much insight about the specific scene, it does build a bit of anticipation for HALLOWEEN KILLS as we await the film's first trailer. David Gordon Green confirmed during the watch party that they are still working on the trailer, as well as a release strategy for the movie, given what is going on in the industry right now with the COVID-19 pandemic. No word on any delays but I'm sure Blumhouse and company are paying close attention to the situation to see if the film will be able to make its October release date.
Do YOU think HALLOWEEN KILLS should go the more violent route this time around? I guess we'll see how much blood is shed when the film hits screens on October 16, 2020, while another sequel will end this version of the franchise in HALLOWEEN ENDS, set for release on October 15, 2021.
