Halloween Kills star Andi Matichak, who plays Laurie Strode's (Jamie Lee Curtis) granddaughter Allyson in the film, is hinting at "next level" retaliation from Michael Myers in the highly anticipated sequel. Halloween Kills was supposed to be released last October but was delayed until October 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Perhaps audience members will relate to Myers' pent-up rage in the film because all involved with the sequel have been hyping it up to be one brutal experience.
Matichak was doing an interview with "The Boo Crew" and the subject of the sequel was brought up. The actress went on to explain that locking up Michael Myers in a fiery blaze at the end of the 2018 film has really set him off and it looks like his revenge will be pretty brutal:
"It is… a movie that I think fans will be very happy with. It’s big, and it’s bad, and it’s mean. And we see Michael… I think Laurie, Allyson and Karen pissed him off a little bit, by locking him in the basement, because his retaliation is next level."
The brutality of Halloween Kills has been alluded to many times by just about everyone involved in the production. I'm getting the impression that no one in this cast is safe from Michael Myers' wrath and that is probably what makes this a pretty deadly and unpredictable follow-up. Co-writer Scott Teems has said that the sequel would be "bigger, badder and meaner" than the previous film and Matichak took to Twitter last May to respond to David Gorden Green saying he directed his most violent scene ever in Halloween Kills with a tweet that read "violence takes on a whole new meaning in Halloween Kills." Director of the original 1978 film and producer on the new installments, John Carpenter, has also commented on how Halloween Kills is the "ultimate slasher" and David Gordon Green elaborated on the aggressive nature of the sequel just last year:
When we made the last one we wanted to find a way for someone who’s never seen the original to get up to speed with the story. But this one gets right to the action. It’s very aggressive. It’s more efficient. We wanted it to be an explosive middle before things get streamlined and personal again.
Jamie Lee Curtis will be returning as Laurie Strode in the sequel and will be joined by Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Robert Longstreet, Anthony Michael Hall, Kyle Richards, and Charles Cyphers. Halloween Kills is set to hit screens on October 15, 2021, and will be followed by Halloween Ends on October 14, 2022.
