Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends dig into cultural phenomenon of violence

A few days ago, HALLOWEEN franchise star Jamie Lee Curtis was given a Best Actress Saturn Award for her performance in HALLOWEEN 2018, which found her reprising the role of heroine Laurie Strode forty years after the events of the original film (ignoring the events of the other HALLOWEEN movies that came between.) While attending the event, Curtis was kind enough to spend 5 minutes talking to one of our friends from the website Collider about not just HALLOWEEN 2018, but also the upcoming sequels HALLOWEEN KILLS and HALLOWEEN ENDS.

Curtis said she was drawn back to the series for HALLOWEEN 2018 because director David Gordon Green and co-writer Danny McBride were interested in telling a story about 

trauma. We have horror movies that are horrific and we have these horrific events that take place, but we leave the movie theatre and then we complain that the dishwasher doesn't work. The trauma that occurs for these characters for forty years, I felt was very important that David understood that and was really giving Laurie great honor to acknowledge that her experience of her life was very challenged."

Curtis says the exploration of trauma will continue in HALLOWEEN KILLS, which will also see the return of (according to Curtis) "MANY original characters" from the '78 film. That includes Lindsey Wallace (who will be played by Kyle Richards, who also played the character in 1978), Tommy Doyle (Anthony Michael Hall), and Lonnie Elam (Robert Longstreet). It has also been rumored that Charles Cyphers will be in there as Brackett. HALLOWEEN KILLS will

really unpack the first movie, bringing back all those characters whose lives were affected by what happened in 1978."

HALLOWEEN KILLS is in production now. Once it wraps there will be a "short breather" before filming begins on HALLOWEEN ENDS. Curtis said that one will deal with 

the sort of cultural phenomenon of violence. That's what the third movie ultimately is, a very powerful examination of violence. It comes at it from a slightly different way."

In addition to Curtis and the other actors mentioned above, the casts of HALLOWEEN KILLS and HALLOWEEN ENDS will also include Judy Greer as Laurie's daughter Karen, Andi Matichak as Laurie's granddaughter Allyson, Jibrail Nantambu as HALLOWEEN 2018 character Julian, and original Michael Myers performer Nick Castle, possibly making another masked cameo like he did in HALLOWEEN 2018. Dylan Arnold is expected to return as Allyson's boyfriend Cameron Elam (son of Lonnie) as well, but his involvement hasn't been confirmed yet.

Green and McBride wrote the screenplay for HALLOWEEN KILLS with Scott Teems. The film is scheduled for an October 16, 2020 release.

Written by Green, McBride, Paul Brad Logan, and Chris Bernier, HALLOWEEN ENDS will reach theatres on October 15, 2021.

Malek Akkad is producing these films with Jason Blum and Bill Block. Green, McBride, and Curtis serve as executive producers alongside John Carpenter and Couper Samuelson. Carpenter will also be composing the score.
