After two movies focusing on the murder spree of Michael Myers, Halloween III: Season of the Witch transformed the franchise into an anthology series and dared to tell a story without Haddonfield’s masked killer. Season of the Witch received poor reviews at the time, particularly from fans who wanted to see the story of Michael Myers continue, but the movie has gone on to grow its own cult following who appreciate its place in the franchise. David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy paid tribute to Season of the Witch, but Halloween Ends came close to providing a big link between the two movies… by making Michael Myers’ mask part of the Silver Shamrock line.
Halloween Ends uses the same blue font as Halloween III: Season of the Witch, and we’ve seen the three Silver Shamrock masks (Jack-O-Lantern, skull and witch) show up in Halloween Kills. While speaking with MovieMaker.com, David Gordon Green said that his script included an ending that took place at a Silver Shamrock factory which also made Michael Myers masks.
There was an ending I wrote, that we never filmed, and it takes place at Silver Shamrock factory as it was spitting out witch, skeleton, and jack-o-lanterns masks… and then it started spitting out Michael Myers masks. I had a temptation to go there, but at the end of the day, I thought that’s just fan service for people who know what Silver Shamrock is. It was in every draft of the script ever published [Laughs.] but we never filmed it.
David Gordon Green added that he loves Season of the Witch, even saying that it’s a concept that someone could take and reinvent down the road. “One serious conversation I had with our producer Malek Akkad was, do I really want to just throw a gag in my movie that’s gonna f— up what someone could seriously do with that title?” Green said. “It’s a cool movie, so I thought my nods would be the blue titles in the intro for those insightful enough to catch it.“ Season of the Witch remains a favourite of mine, even if that Silver Shamrock song gets stuck in my head for weeks at a time. Happy, happy, Halloween, Silver Shamrock. Dammit.
Halloween Ends is now playing in theaters and streaming on Peacock. You can check out a review of Halloween Ends from our own JimmyO right here, and be sure to let us know what you thought of the film as well!
