After coming close to appearing together in THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN, it seems that Haley Bennett and Chris Evans may get another chance. Variety reports that Chris Evans is already on-board and that Haley Bennet is in negotiations to star in RED SEA DIVING RESORT, a true-life Mossad spy drama from Gideon Raff.
Best known as the creator of Prisoners of War, the acclaimed Israeli TV series whose U.S. adaptation resulted in Homeland, Gideon Raff will write and direct RED SEA DIVING RESORT. The film will tell the story of the Mossad's efforts to bring home Ethiopian Jews who were trapped in the Sudan in the late 1970's and early 1980's. Evans is set to play Ari Kidron, "an agent who puts together a team that took over a deserted resort in Sudan as they began their multiyear mission." At the moment it's not known who Haley Bennet would be playing, but let's see what else Variety has to say about the plot.
The story picks up in 1977, when Israel’s Mossad spy agency was given an assignment far different from its usual cloak-and-dagger activities. It was ordered by then-Prime Minister Menachem Begin to rescue thousands of Ethiopian Jews in Sudan and deliver them to the Jewish state. No stranger to action in enemy countries, the agency established a covert forward base in a deserted holiday village in Sudan and deployed a handful of operatives to launch and oversee the exodus to the Promised Land, by sea and by air, in the early 1980s.
Production on RED SEA DIVING RESORT is expected to begin this summer. Last year proved to be productive one for Haley Bennett as the actress appeared in both THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN and THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN. Chris Evans was up for a part in the latter film, but scheduling difficulties proved to be a stumbling block and the role wound up going to Justin Theroux.
