H. R. Giger designed a Batmobile for Batman Forever

After Tim Burton and Michael Keaton decided not to go ahead and make the world the happiest place on Earth by making BATMAN 3 the duties fell to THE LOST BOYS and FALLING DOWN director Joel Schumacher. He hired Val Kilmer to play the Caped Crusader, Jim Carrey to play The Riddler, and Tommy Lee Jones to play Two-Face, called the whole she-bang BATMAN FOREVER and the rest is history.

But were you aware that ALIEN designer H. R. Giger was originally hired to design the new Batmobile? It's all true. And today we have the proof. The designs were recently rediscover by Trash Can Dan over on Twitter who wrote:

Wow! H.R. Giger was contacted to design a new Batmobile for Batman Forever in 1994 not exactly sure what they were expecting?

The film's production designer Barbara Ling said of the experience hiring Giger:

We had early discussions with [Alien designer H R.] Giger about the Batmobile. He had these insane, fabulous, weird scribbles that were very like Alien. It was exciting that this strange mind briefly touched upon us, but it didn't work out. We hired this fabulous team of builders, this young team who had never done a movie before, Trans-FX. From our drawings, we went in to doing little 3D clay and shaping that. It's amazing how much the design of that morphs. As it becomes more 3D, you go back in and keep redesigning. Drawing a car is one thing, but it doesn't ever really look like that. Once you 3D that, it's like "Oh my God. That fender looks gigantic.

Giger's Batmobile features four wheels on each side, tentacle-shaped back fins, and a claw-like front. It also has two wheels in the middle and a tank-like cockpit for the driver. The texture of the car is very reminiscent of a ship from ALIEN, there are blades on the inside of each wing, and the wheel covers also have turrets attached to them, giving the car 8 in all.
