Guy Ritchie‘s adaptation of the television series THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. is going to be dropped right into the wasteland of movie releases that is January. But, with recent shifts pushing higher profile movies into the winter months, the spy thriller could actually end up making a nice profit.
Starring Armie Hammer and Henry Cavill, THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. was originally set to star Tom Cruise who dropped out in favor of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5. But, the cast also includes Hugh Grant, Jared Harris and Alicia Vikander. Guy Ritchie‘s distinct visual style should be an interesting fit for this James Bond-esque plot.
The story follows special agents Napoleon Solo (Henry Cavill) and Illya Kuryakin (Armie Hammer), who work for the mysterious United Network Command for Law and Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.).
I would expect THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. to share the same comedic sense as Ritchie’s SHERLOCK HOLMES films, but I wouldn’t be shocked if it was a straight dramatic film either. The two young stars of the film should play well off of one another. This definitely has franchise potential.
