Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen twists up the first ever “Weed” poster

While scores of artists are busy agonizing over their approach to film poster art, the PR team in charge of Guy Ritchie's THE GENTLEMEN is rolling up into Thursday having changed the game entirely. STXfilms today has debuted a new poster for THE GENTLEMEN that, I kid you not, was made using the cannabis plant as the medium to create likenesses of the film's cast. I can't help but think that if Matthew McConaughey were here right now, he'd be saying "Well alright, alright, alright."

For the new print, STXfilms commissioned artist Zach Fernandez aka Jesushands, who is a self taught multi-media artist and entrepreneur based out of Los Angeles, California. According to today's press release, art became a corner stone of his life at a young age as a way of communication during his turbulent childhood. Jesushands is famously known for an art installation executed on New Year’s Day 2017, when he single handedly altered the Hollywood sign to say Hollyweed. Since then he has launched his own legal cannabis brand, titled of the same name, Hollyweed by Jesushands, debuting at the licensed cannabis B2B HALL OF FLOWERS, in 2019. Jesushands continues to participate in various art shows and installations around LA highlighting the culture surrounding cannabis and art something he’s coined to be “Pot Art.” He’s also a dedicated music producer.

Here's the official synopsis for THE GENTLEMEN:

From writer/director Guy Ritchie comes THE GENTLEMEN, a star-studded sophisticated action comedy. THE GENTLEMEN follows American expat Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey) who built a highly profitable marijuana empire in London. When word gets out that he’s looking to cash out of the business forever it triggers plots, schemes, bribery and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him (featuring an all-star ensemble cast including Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong, Eddie Marsan, Colin Farrell, and Hugh Grant).

Never in my life have I thought to myself 'Man, I would love to snatch that movie poster right off the wall, break it up, and roll it into a Swisher Sweets cigarillo,' and yet, here we are, standing on the precipice of film poster progress. Oh how lovely it is to live in Canada, where weed is regulated and legal.

What do you think about Jesushands' new weed poster for THE GENTLEMEN? Would you also like to scrape a small piece of the bottom half into your paraphernalia of choice, or is this simply a gimmick that only works as a laugh and nothing more? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

THE GENTLEMEN, as directed and co-written by Guy Ritchie with Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies, will puff, puff, pass its way into theaters beginning on January 24th.
