Guy Ritchie shares the first photo from the Knights of the Round Table set

This project has been hanging around for a while but at long last Guy Ritchie’s KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE has begun production. To commemorate the occasion Guy Ritchie shared this photo from the first day on set. Appearing alongside him is Charlie Hunnam who will be playing the lead role of Arthur Pendragon, future king of Camelot.

Jude Law has landed the role of the villain, with Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Eric Bana, and Djimon Hounsou also set to appear in the film. KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE is supposed to be the first of a planned six-film franchise; whether it will be successful enough to make it that far will demend largly on the success of this first film. Ritchie's SHERLOCK HOLMES franchise has been very popular so I guess Warner Bros. are hoping he'll be able to capture that same magic here.

We've seen many films tackle the legend of King Arthur before but Ritchie's take looks to be the most ambitious yet; assuming he can pull it off. Charlie Hunnam is the only stumbling block for me as I've yet to have been really blown away by his performances (I've never seen Sons of Anarchy), so I'm having difficulty buying him as the lead of a potentially gigantic new franchise.

KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE will be hitting theaters July 22, 2016.
