Lionsgate is pouncing on the rights to distribute Guy Ritchie’s next action movie in the United States as part of a big-ticket deal. The untitled project wraps principal photography in Spain this week, with Henry Cavill (Argylle, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, The Witcher), Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko, Nightcrawler, Spider-Man: Far From Home), and Eiza González (Baby Driver, I Care a Lot, Ambulance) leading the cast.
All of the actors mentioned above have worked with Ritchie on previous projects, including Gyllenhaal for The Covenant, with Cavill and González starring alongside one another in the upcoming war drama The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Plot details for Ritchie’s untitled action movie remain a mystery, though whispers indicate the film could have Expendables-style elements. Carlos Bardem (Assasin’s Creed, The Lord of the Skies, Echo 3) and Fisher Stevens (Short Circuit, Hackers, Asteroid City) also star as primary cast members.
“We are thrilled to once again be partnering with the entire Lionsgate team, whose passion and ambition for the film are very clear,” said Guy Ritchie. “We are excited to extend and build on our relationship with Joe, Adam, Nathan, and Charlotte to bring the film to audiences across the US.”
“We are delighted to be building on our relationship with Lionsgate, partnering with them on another incredible Guy Ritchie movie, following The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Having a powerhouse independent distributor in the US, combined with a wide array of the best in-class theatrical distributors from around the world, has allowed us to deliver a highly commercial film to the marketplace in what has been a very difficult period on our industry, and is a real testament to the power of independent distribution, which has never been more essential than this year,” added producer John Friedberg from Black Bear.
Who else would you pair with Cavill, González, and Gyllenhaal for an Expendables-style action movie from Guy Ritchie? I’d throw Chris Hemsworth in the mix. Have you seen his moves in the Extraction films? He’s a lightning-quick powerhouse that could easily stand alongside the above trio. Let us know who you would add to the cast of Guy Ritchie’s next project in the comments section below.
