Alien: Covenant: Guy Pearce doesn’t know if we’ll ever get a sequel

2017’s Alien: Covenant was supposed to put more emphasis on visceral thrills after 2012’s Prometheus went down a more cerebral path that divided fans of the Alien franchise. Despite displaying more gore and action, Alien: Covenant also proved to be polarizing with fans. It just seems that director Ridley Scott couldn’t find the right balance in either film to please the masses so some fans were ultimately left unsatisfied. That hasn’t stopped talk of some kind of sequel moving forward but Guy Pearce, who played Weyland Corp CEO Peter Weyland in Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, doesn’t know if a sequel to that film is in the cards.

Pearce has been making the rounds promoting his new film Zone 414 and during a chat with “CBM“, the actor expressed that he is unaware if Ridley Scott has any plans to do a sequel to Alien: Covenant. That being said, Pearce also wasn’t aware that he would get to do Alien: Covenant so he feels doing any additional Alien films would be a bonus. The actor admits to keeping in touch with Scott regularly and he’s sure if a sequel was to happen, he would know. Here is what he had to say:

“Well, I don’t know, to be honest. Again, I think with any of these… I wouldn’t have necessarily thought I’d get to do Covenant either! Who knows. I’m not in regular contact with Ridley, but we do have semi-regular contact occasionally. I’m sure if there is something, he would certainly let me know. He was very generous to even put me in the films in the first place, and we’ve always talked about how pleased he was with what we came up with.”

Alien: Covenant served as a prequel to Prometheus and was the sixth overall installment in the Alien franchise. The film follows the crew of a colony ship that lands on an uncharted planet and makes a terrifying discovery. The movie was rated fresh on Rotten Tomatoes at 65% but fans seemed to be mixed on the film. The movie ultimately grossed $74.3 million domestically on a $97 million budget but overseas grosses pushed the film to $240.9 million worldwide. The movie did well enough to justify another entry but I suspect Ridley Scott wants to be very sure of what idea to utilize moving forward because the franchise is close to being on thins ice.
