Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim blu-ray/DVD details and release date revealed!

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Perhaps the best box office “dud” of the summer, Guillermo Del Toro‘s PACIFIC RIM came out as the-big-movie-that-could by surpassing its domestic gross overseas and turning a decent profit as a result. Fans of the film have rallied behind it not only because it’s a fun genre throwback film, but because it was also an original non-sequel entry in the summer movie season that took a risk, rather than riding the coattails of an established franchise. Not everyone fell to its charms, but ultimately it ended up making a big splash regardless of the lackluster domestic box office.

Now, the film is stomping its way to blu-ray/DVD where it will likely find a second (and profitable) life amongst those who skipped it at the theater. I think we’ll see a similar situation as what happened to DREDD, which was all but ignored in the theater, but skyrocketed to the top of the charts when it hit home video.

Here’s the deets and box art for PACIFIC RIM:

“Pacific Rim” will be available on Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack for $44.95, on Blu-ray Combo Pack for $35.99 and on 2-disc DVD Special Edition for $28.98.  The Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack features the theatrical version of the film in 3D hi-definition, hi-definition and standard definition; the Blu-ray Combo Pack features the theatrical version of the film in hi-definition on Blu-ray; and the DVD features the theatrical version in standard definition.  The Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack and the 2-disc DVD Special Edition include UltraViolet* which allows consumers to download and instantly stream the theatrical version of the film to a wide range of devices including computers and compatible tablets, smartphones, game consoles, Internet-connected TVs and Blu-ray players.

PACIFIC RIM Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack and Blu-ray Combo Pack contain the following special features:

·        Audio Commentary by Guillermo del Toro

·        The Directors Notebook

·        Drift Space

·        The Digital Artistry of Pacific Rim

·        The Shatterdome

·        Focus Points

·        Deleted Scenes

·        Blooper Reel

Personally speaking, I really enjoyed PACIFIC RIM. Taking my four-year-old to the film made it even better as it was very much like experiencing the wonder of a big, silly, robots vs. monsters movie for the first time and it grew on me with each viewing (we clocked in at three viewings). Fingers crossed for a sequel, but if not, we’ll at least have this one sitting on the shelf for repeat viewings.

PACIFIC RIM hits Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and HD Digital Download on October 15, 2013. Preorder HERE!
