Guillermo del Toro talks Crimson Peak’s sex and violence

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

We’re all excited to get a look at Guillermo del Toro’s PACIFIC RIM this July, but it’s possible that his follow-up will be even more drool-worthy. CRIMSON PEAK has already lined up a killer cast, including Jessica Chastain, Emma Stone, Benedict Cumberbatch and Charlie Hunnam, and though we don’t know a whole lot about it, we know it’s a gothic romance set in a haunted house. Pretty much all we need to know to get excited about it, but del Toro has just given us further reason to anticipate it.

In an interview with Fangoria, del Toro spilled a few details about his ghost story. Guess what? It’s sexy and f*cked up!:

“It’s a very traditional Gothic romance and at the same time very modern in the sense that it has strong sex and violence. I’ve never done a movie that has anything remotely kinky, but this movie is a little kinky and the violence is very shocking. So you’re traversing through a tranquil Gothic romance, and all of a sudden this terrifying and sexual stuff comes in. It’s very much a haunted-house movie, but I don’t think there’s a ghost of a chance that we’ll get a PG-13 rating.”

Kinky sex, shocking violence, a haunted house and an R rating? YES PLEASE!

CRIMSON PEAK starts shooting next year.
