Guillermo del Toro still up for Hellboy 3 and At The Mountains Of Madness! Ron Perlman is game!

While he might still be busy with his larger-than-life monsters vs. robots epic PACIFIC RIM (not to mention several other films in early stages of production), it seems that Guillermo del Toro hasn’t given up on some of his earlier projects. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the director said:

“I can say publicly that now we are together in trying [to do Hellboy 3]”

Ron “The Man” Perlman added:

“The [first] two movies were really set up to have this unbelievable resolve. Everything that was done in both movies was leading up to this destiny, written in stone, of what Hellboy has been summoned to Earth to do. To not do it, particularly in light of the scope that Guillermo is thinking of for the resolve, would be in my mind a little bit of a shame.”

While a possible HELLBOY 3 is awesome and unexpected news, that’s still not all – del Toro also confided that he might even come back to his ill-fated HP Lovecraft adaptation AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS! Here’s what he told Empire on that score:

“For me, the collapse of At The Mountains Of Madness was a soul-shattering experience. It was very difficult for me that that movie didn’t happen. We designed the creatures, the sets, we were scouting the locations, and went through any number of drafts. Everything was going and then it collapsed and it was a big blow. It was a very debilitating moment.

But I think we may still make it. When I’m brave enough to go and see Prometheus, I’ll know. But for now, I don’t know. We are all nothing but human beings. I go to the theatre, I buy my ticket for Prometheus and I go and see something else, because I’m afraid. I’m not a mental entity, I am also emotional, because the ideas are similar, from what I’ve heard and I’ll see it next week, I promise!”

Fan-friggin-tastic. Of course, I suppose the fate of both of those projects depends on how well PACIFIC RIM does next summer. If it lives up to its full potential and manages to rake in the dough at the box office, I figure the studio execs will let del Toro do whatever the hell he pleases.
