Back in 2010, Guillermo del Toro signed a deal with DreamWorks Animation that would have him producing a number of animated films, as well as directing his own animated feature, TROLLHUNTERS. While his animated directorial debut may still be a ways off, that doesn’t mean del Toro isn’t busy at DreamWorks.
The director received an executive producer credit on PUSS N BOOTS and fresh off the success of that film, will produce a new animated film from Spanish animator Rodrigo Blaas, who left Pixar to independently produce his short “Alma” (which you can see below).
The project had been in development at DreamWorks but the animation studio has decided to formally move forward with a feature length ALMA and has hired SUNSHINE CLEANING writer Megan Holley to work on the script with Blaas.
Though the original was a cute, but creepy affair, the film is expected to be less like CORALINE and more family friendly, DreamWorks-style stuff. Also, Alma will very likely make the DreamWorks face.
Del Toro is prepping his next directing gig, PACIFIC RIM, and producing the horror film MAMA for Universal.
