We here at AITH are going to start making it a point from here on out to cut back on the articles related to STEPHEN KING'S IT here for a while. Just seems like we need to move onto other areas of interest.
That said, we do still plan to cover important stories that pop up and any news about IT: CHAPTER 2. So no worries, we're not leaving you guys in the dark here. Anyhow, today we have some cool news about a new classic scene in the film.
WARNING: SPOILERS
As those of you who have seen the film know, there is a scene involving Stan and a creeper woman from a painting in the flick that wasn't from the original source material. So what did King think of the addition?
Well, frankly, it scared the absolute sh*t out of him.
Barbara Muschietti on King's reaction:
…Stephen King, the first email he sent to Andy when he had seen the movie, the one fear he wrote back, he said, “I fucking love the woman in the painting, it scared the shit out of me'.
Personally, I would have picked the scene where Pennywise comes contortionist-ing out of that old fridge, or the scene where the creepy painting woman eats Stan's face, but that's just me.
But speaking of the painting, director Andy Muschietti talked about the inspiration for the new classic scene in a recent interview with the New York Times.
Andy Muschietti on the painting:
It’s a literal translation of a very personal childhood fear,” Muschietti told the site, narrating the scene where Judith first appears. “In my house, there was a print of a Modigliani painting that I found terrifying. And the thought of meeting an incarnation of the woman in it would drive me crazy.
[Modigliani] often does these portraits with elongated characters. His vision of humans were with elongated necks, crooked faces and empty eyes most of the time. It was so deformed that as a child, you don’t see that as an artist’s style. You see it as a monster.
