Upon his introduction in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, Drax (Dave Bautista) quickly became a fan favourite, but all good things must come to an end and Dave Bautista recently hinted that the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 might just be the last we see of Drax
While speaking with Digital Spy, Dave Bautista said that he's not sure what Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will bring for Drax. "I don't know what the script of the third film is, to be honest with you," Bautista said. "There was a script years ago that obviously is going to have to change because the whole direction of the Marvel universe has changed… I mean, as far as my obligations, I've got Guardians 3, and that's probably going to be the end of Drax." The actor also revealed that there had once been talks of a Drax and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) spin-off, but he hasn't heard anything about it for a while.
There were talks for a while about a Drax and Mantis film. It was really because it was James Gunn's idea. He really wanted to do a Drax and Mantis film. He laid it out to me. I thought it was such a brilliant idea, but I haven't heard any follow-up from the studio. I don't think they're very interested, or it doesn't fit into the way they have things mapped out.
Sounds like something that could be perfect as a Disney+ series? But I suppose that all depends on what happens with the characters in the upcoming sequel. Drax, and the rest of the Guardians for that matter, went on to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, and the gang will next be seen starring alongside Chris Hemsworth in Thor: Love & Thunder, which is set to hit theaters on May 6, 2022. As for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, that film was recently slated for a May 5, 2023 release.
