Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 won’t be what people are expecting

James Gunn started shooting Guardians of the Galaxy 3 last November and production is still underway, but the director revealed that he’s shared scenes with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. While speaking with Collider, Gunn said that Marvel producers were “really stoked” with what they saw, but cautioned that the film will be different than what people are expecting.

I think that I’m really happy. I gave a bunch of scenes to Marvel right before Christmas break. Kevin [Feige] went… They were all really, really, really stoked. But also, it’s not going to be the movie people… It’s different than what people are going to expect. It’s a hard road, but I’m really happy with it so far.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will naturally feature the return of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, and Pom Klementieff, but there are a few new additions to the cast as well. Gunn singled out Chukwudi Iwuji for praise. “Chukwudi, who plays Murn in Peacemaker, is one of the main characters in the movie and people are freaking out over how good this guy is,” Gunn said. “Literally freaking out.” It’s not known who Iwuji is playing in Guardians of the Galaxy 3, but I can’t wait to find out. Another new addition to the cast is Will Poulter, who is playing Adam Warlock. The character was first teased in one of the post-credit scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 when Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) created an artificial being to help destroy the Guardians.

James Gunn added that they haven’t started shooting the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which is set to debut on Disney+ this December, but they’ll start shooting at some point during the production. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit theaters on May 5, 2023.
