Sofia Vergara jettisons her funny, family-friendly persona as she steps into the shoes of a notorious boss lady who held a grip on the Miami drug scene in the late 70s and early 80s. Narcos and Narcos: Mexico showrunners return to the hectic cartel drama with the new series. This new Netflix show features Vergara as a drug cartel kingpin, or rather queenpin. Not only is it a serious turn for Vergara, who is known for her popular comedy series Modern Family with Julie Bowen, but she also showcases an extreme ruthlessness as the villainous Griselda. The series is based on true events and comes from creators Eric Newman & Doug Miro & Ingrid Escajeda & Carlo Bernard. Netflix has just released the new trailer as well as new images, courtesy of Deadline.

The official synopsis from Netflix reads,
GRISELDA is inspired by the life of the savvy and ambitious Griselda Blanco, who created one of the most profitable cartels in history. In 1970s-80s Miami, Blanco’s lethal blend of unsuspected savagery and charm helped her expertly navigate between business and family, leading her to become widely known as ‘the Godmother.’”

The series stars Sofía Vergara (Griselda Blanco), Alberto Guerra (Dario Sepúlveda), Christian Tappan (Arturo Mesa), Martín Rodríguez (Rivi Ayala), Juliana Aidén Martinez (June Hawkins) and Vanessa Ferlito (Carmen Gutiérrez). Andrés Baiz is in the director’s chair for all episodes. Ingrid Escajeda & Doug Miro are on board as co-showrunners. The executive producers on the Netflix project include Narcos and Narcos: Mexico showrunner and directing team Eric Newman and Andrés Baiz. As well as Doug Miro, Ingrid Escajeda, Carlo Bernard along with Sofía Vergara and Luis Balaguer with Latin World Entertainment.

Griselda is a limited series for Netflix that will feature six 50-minute episodes. The series is set to premiere globally on Netflix on January 25, 2024.
