The last word we brought you guys on the possible third entry in the GREMLINS series was when the original film's director Joe Dante said the new sequel/reboot might be a prequel. Well, it looks like that might not be true as the original film's screenwriter and reboot producer Chris Columbus just told Metro USA that the film will "almost definitely be a reboot."
Chris Columbus:
Gremlins we are actively talking about that. So that’s what I am working on with my production company 1492 Pictures. It will almost definitely be a reboot.
Urhm. You know, it's times like these that I even wonder what the difference to some studios execs is between a reboot and a sequel. Turns out that they can't even figure it out themselves sometimes. No bother, I'm still looking forward to more GREMLINS whatever they choose to call it.

GREMLINS synopsis:
A gadget salesman is looking for a special gift for his son and finds one at a store in Chinatown. The shopkeeper is reluctant to sell him the "mogwai" but sells it to him with the warning to never expose him to bright light, water, or to feed him after midnight. All of this happens and the result is a gang of gremlins that tear up the town on Christmas Eve.
GREMLINS 3 is now in development at Warner Brothers.
